Bob McCreadie

After listening to Roger Day’s Breakfast Show on offshore pirate station RNI in 1970 before heading to school Bob developed a passion for radio and a desire to get on air himself . He first realised that ambition with a low power land based pirate station in 1976 which resulted in an appearance before the local magistrates and a massive telling off from his mum who knew nothing about it until she saw a report of the case on the front page of the local paper ! In 1977 Bob moved to Bahrain in the Arabian Gulf and joined the government owned english language station Radio Bahrain where he gained the experience that eventually allowed him to break in to UK radio. In 1986 he returned to the UK and worked as a freelancer for Plymouth Sound before landing the Breakfast Show on what was at the time Britain’s smallest radio station, Radio in Tavistock , which was owned by Plymouth Sound. In 1989 he moved to Devonair where he launched their new opt out South West 103 which served East Devon and parts of South Somerset. In Jan 1990 Bob joined the newly launched Orchard FM to host the Breakfast Show . Orchard was one of the most successful stations in the UK in audience terms and Bob’s show was consistently in the Top 10 of local radio Breakfast Shows based on Average Half Hour Audience percentage, achieving the Number One spot in 1998. He was also Orchard FM’s Programme Director from 1996 onwards. In 1999 Bob moved to UKRD as Programme Controller and Breakfast Host on Bristol’s 107.3 The Eagle . In 2001 he headed west to take over the PD reins and Breakfast Show at UKRD’s flagship station Pirate FM. In 2013 Bob was invited by Radio Plymouth MD and former Radio Bahrain colleague to take over Breakfast on that station, later moving to the 10 am to 2pm slot. From 2014 Bob was also working for broadcasting legend Noel Edmond’s on a streaming radio project. This eventually became a full time role with Bob hanging up his headphones to devote himself the development of Noel’s streaming project . Since summer 2022 Bob has been semi retired, spending more time on his other radio related passion, Ham Radio. Bob is a licensed Radio Amateur with the callsign G0FGX and hosts a popular streaming TV show on the subject, TX Factor , which brings viewers around the world features , news and reviews about the hobby. The shows are available on You Tube and at www.txfactor.co.uk Bob lives in West Cornwall with his wife Eve.
