Got a nose for a story; an eye on current affairs; a finger on the pulse? You could be just what we’re looking for.

We’re after a journalist with a fantastic broadcast voice and great writing skills. You’ll be able to create original, compelling news content that will appeal to our target audience. You’ll also make sure that everything you do is compliant with legal and broadcast regulations, and consistent with Global’s values and standards.

As a Broadcast Journalist you’ll be creating original, compelling local news stories that will appeal to our target audience. You’ll be responsible to the Regional News Editor, but will also need to develop good relationships with the Managing Editor, the Broadcast Centre MD, and the Regional and Group News teams. You’ll be using a full range of multi-media tools, to research, write and edit local online news that creates an interactive experience for our listeners and improves our online figures.

What will you be doing

There is lots of flexibility in this role that could see you “on desk” writing and reading bulletins, or out and about reporting also from entertainment events in the local area and also reporting on local news items.

You’ll be researching and presenting news bulletins as directed by the Regional News Editor so you’ll be passionate about writing original, exciting news and current affairs content across multiple platforms.

Using the full range of multi-media tools, you’ll research, write and edit local online news that creates an interactive experience for our listeners and improves online figures.

As you grow into the job you’ll soon know when all news content is legally sound, that it complies with all legal and broadcast regulations, and that it’s consistent with our brand standards.

What we expect of you

You’ll need to have previous experience of creating original radio and online journalism including reporting, desk editing and bulletin production that is true to our brands.

As we’ve said, you’ll be reading the news and so you should have an excellent ‘radio’ voice as well as experience of presenting and delivering both live and pre-recorded bulletins.

You’ll have excellent networking skills, with experience of contributing to effective contacts databases.

You should have a good understanding of the region in which you are working and the key issues facing that region.

A full, clean UK Driving License is essential
