talkSPORT’s flagship show, the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast (weekdays 6-10am), has achieved its highest ever number of listeners, according to industry figures released by RAJAR today (23 October). The official industry figures cover the third quarter of the year from 23rd June - 14th September.

Overall, the station recorded 3.15 million listeners (a 5% increase on the previous year) during this period, which included transfer deadline day and the start of the 2014/15 Barclays Premier League season.

Over 1.5million listeners are tuning in to each week to hear former Manchester United, Ipswich and Scotland striker Alan alongside his co-hosts from the world of sport. The show attracts some of the biggest sporting names, bringing listeners the key news and interviews before anywhere else. Alan is one of the longest standing and most successful presenters in UK radio. He has presented the breakfast show on talkSPORT since 2001.

There is further success across the station’s weekday programming, with all daytime shows achieving over 1 million listeners. Drive (4-7pm weekdays) has grown its audience to 1.3 million (up 6% on the year). Colin Murray and Friends (10am-1pm) and Hawksbee and Jacobs (1-4pm) both reached 1.1 million listeners.

Weekend Sports Breakfast (Saturdays and Sundays 7-11am), hosted by former footballer Micky Quinn and sports broadcaster Georgie Bingham, also recorded its highest ever figure with a record 803,000 sports fans listening for all of the news ahead of the weekend’s matches.

People are also listening to the station for longer with weekly listening hours increasing to 22.3 million - a 7% increase from the previous year.

Digitally the station continues to grow with record traffic to talkSPORT.com during Q3. The intense 24 hours of transfer deadline day saw a record number of hits to the website.

Calum Macaulay, talkSPORT Managing Director said: “Alan Brazil is one of the best presenters in UK radio, and these record figures demonstrate his quality. I’m delighted that seven days a week our breakfast programming is reaching more and more sports fans and our other key shows are all over a million listeners making this our biggest ever Q3. Our digital platforms are key to the business, and with the record figures for talkSPORT.com we look forward to growing audience and revenues in this area.”
