How long for FM

With more and more people listening to DAB and online, will radio stations start to turn away from FM?
My view is that it will be a long process, certainly longer than it was with analogue TV, Any opinions?

AM will go a long time before FM. Plus DAB still doesn't match FM for coverage or audio quality yet.
But when it does ....

Yes, will AM ever go? we here of stations shutting down on this medium but bucking the trend the Mother of them all RADIO CAROLINE al be it low power. FM of course will go on for many years and it depends on the younger generation to get really into DAB and I suppose if they want a radio for home use they are more than likely to buy the latest technology off the shelf, that being DAB.
All frequencies are there to be used and I am sure they will be

It is the cost of broadcasting on the respective infrastructure that is and will determine how long FM continues to be used. We only have to look at Absolute Radio's request to Ofcom to reduce their AM/MW coverage in the UK.
Broadcasters should be allowed to make their own decisions on whether it is cost effective to remain on a specific waveband.
As the majority of radios on sale are only DAB/DAB+/FM sets the ability of FM to continue will be here for sometime.

I think fm will be here for a while as most stations on dab are in mono and broadcast at 80kbps i thought dab was superb stereo it sounds rubbish fm sounds so much better as their all in stereo its like i was listening to absolute radio on dab today i turned back to fm as it sounds better and in fm stereo on 105.2 until every station is in stereo you shouldnt even think abt truning off the fm

We need multiplexes, such as Digital 1, that currently appear to offer only 'original flavour' DAB to offer DAB+ AAC and then we can listen to Absolute and other stations in stereo in the same way I am able to listen to Jazz FM Stereo here in East Yorkshire.

"It's not, yet, a done deal that the UK will actually turn off FM" (words from James Cridland) in his latest post on Media.Info, of course that's right with an increase in advertising of 5.1% the government might think twice about an early exit, and FM stations will look long and hard at going Digital but it can run alongside until there are figures showing DAB listening above that of FM, and who knows that might not be too far away.
