Would you pay for an ad-free version?

We'd like to let you to get rid of the ads on our website, in return for some money. We know some people don't like ads, but we rely on them for the majority of our income - and have done for (gulp) twenty years so far.

We're thinking of asking for an initial £4.99 a year. You'd get no ads, and we'd also give you a secure version of our website via https, so nobody can snoop on what you're doing. We'd probably call this "VIP" or "Pro".

If we asked for £4.99 per year (no auto-recurring payment, just a £4.99 price for no-ads for 365 days) would you:
a) get your pitchforks out
b) be cool with it
c) think we're selling ourselves short
d) other, please explain

We're genuinely interested as to whether this is a good plan. We think ads work fine for many people, but we know that other people would prefer other ways of ensuring that pays its way.

Adverts don't bother me. I don't mind advertising when I'm getting something for free.

I second. Besides, ads are funny.

You seem to have done a good job at minimising the impact of the ads (probably not a good idea if they are PPC!). I hardly notice them.

If you were using an ad blocker, Josh, you'd have spotted a lovely little message just for you, encouraging you to give us a donation. But because you aren't, which is nice, you'll not see it.

Well, I use one, but I only block something manually - when it appears rather wrong.
And it's only with Google Chrome - while it's got to pop up some "survey" tabs recently, so I'm not sure if I could notice any "lovely messages" so far.
Besides, I'm trying to contribute - like work for the room;) A self-hired volunteer:D
Well, and the thing is - I don't follow any adverts at all. Ever. No matter if they are there or not.
So, gentlemen, thank you for not kicking me out.;-)
