dpa English Services GmbH is seeking an experienced

Editor / Writer (m/f)

The successful applicant will join a team of editors on our international desk in Berlin working in a competitive news environment where excellent writing, speed and in-depth knowledge are crucial. The position is available immediately. The Berlin desk operates from 0800 to 2100 Central European Time.

What you’ll do

  • Plan, coordinate and drive the coverage of stories from all over the world

  • Work closely with reporters in the field to get accurate news to the wire quickly

  • Communicate with our desks in Bangkok and Washington

  • Cooperate very closely with the dpa’s German, Spanish and Arabic services

  • Write articles under deadline pressure

  • Translate stories from German and, ideally, also from Spanish into English

  • Report about Germany from a foreign correspondent’s point of view

  • Manage our website, communicate with our clients, select photos, choose and translate infographics, tweet breaking news, support our video production

What we expect from you

  • The ability to recognize and develop newsworthy stories of global interest and write accurately under pressure

  • Strong organizational skills

  • A clear understanding of the growing importance of multimedia news

  • Outstanding communications skills

  • At least two years of full-time editing experience in the news media

  • Flexibility and openness to working in the evenings and on weekends

  • Advanced-level professional competency in English language

  • Ability to read and translate German, speaking fluency preferred

  • Working knowledge of Spanish and/or Arabic are a plus
