Tune to 101.5 MHz in Seattle, and you’ll hear classic country music on KPLZ, branded as “HANK FM.”
Now, Lotus Communications has expanded the brand to the Las Vegas market, and is using a just-acquired FM translator to bring it to Southern Nevada.
Lotus’ day-to-day leader, Jim Kalmenson, tells RBR+TVBR that an asset purchase agreement is being filed with the FCC for its regulatory approval of a deal that sees the family-owned broadcasting company purchase K234BS at 94.7 MHz from Educational Media Foundation.
K234BS uses a facility on Arden Peak, to the south of Henderson atop Black Mountain. Its a site where Lotus’ Rock KOMP and Classic Rock KXPT have their broadcast facilities, and is already being operated by Lotus via a Time Brokerage Agreement.
A source close to the matter tells RBR+TVBR that a $400,000 purchase price was agreed to between the parties. K234BS is being fed by KXPT’s HD2 signal.
HANK FM joins a group of audio brands that also includes Regional Mexican KWID “101.9 La Buena,” and several Sports Talk AMs in Las Vegas.
K234BS became an EMF property in fall 2021 through an asset exchange agreement with Ondas de Vida. This gave that entity KEKL-FM 88.5 in Mesquite, Nev.
