So a cool £10 million has been paid by Tabor & Co for the station. As John Myers has pointed out in his blog, it's obviously important for them to get Capital FM into Liverpool, which is the likely motive - I can't see it joining any other brand.

Big question is will more follow? Global are clearly prepared to pay for stations they really want. UTV's Signal Radio and Wave Blackpool, and Lincs FM Group's Lincs FM and KCFM are obvious bets for either them or Communicorp to fill in gaps in the North. Any others?

What do people think Global will do with this station? Some suggesting Capital Xtra or even XFM may be the chosen format.

If it's not Capital, I will eat Paddy Ashdown's hat.

Considering Global have spent £10m on the station, I doubt they'll use it for a niche brand.

Some people claim that Xfm is the next thing that Global are going to pile money into, to help them attract the male audience that mirrors Heart's female audience.

They talk about Xfm getting a national slot on DAB; that Chris Moyles might come and do the Xfm breakfast; and that it's a valuable and interesting brand for Global.

I'm still not entirely sure; but I think there's something in that. Moyles's contract with the BBC is coming to a close (I think he's still under contract); as a creative guy he'd be keen to get back behind the microphone again, and it might be worth considering. Hey, you could even see Stephanie Hirst on there. Kind of. Though whether she'd ever work for Global again, I don't know.

But all that notwithstanding, the easy job would be to whack Capital on there. It's probably already got a fair amount of listeners in Liverpool, but isn't decent RAJAR'd there.

In terms of other targets for Global - yes, you'd see Lincs FM being a good bet for them, and Signal and Wave Blackpool, I'd agree. You'd also wonder whether Communicorp would consider buying Gem 106, and returning it to Heart...

If Global aren't allowed to own Capital and Smooth in the East Midlands, would Communicorp really be allowed to own Gem/Heart and Smooth?
