While listening to the French radio station MFM Radio spin off 80s station using the Xiia Live app (so the direct stream and not via the station app), I noticed that when they went to a commercial break, they were playing UK adverts.

EDIT: May have actually been Tendance Ouest.

I'm assuming that they're able to insert the correct adverts based on the ip where the listener is based, so can do local deals with advertisers, so the company can earn some revenue from international listeners.

Are there any stations in the UK which insert adverts outside of the UK using their stream.

I've noticed the same on The Penthouse Radio from New York. Normally their breaks carry US public service announcements. Now I hear commerials relevant to Scotland and my nearest town of Paisley. This appears to be courtesy of Radionomy.

The UK commercial radio music licensing deal only covers use in the UK, and most stations employ some rudimentary geo-locking.

In Stream advertising is used in the UK. We at talkSPORT are using it, as are other radio groups. It is available from several companies such as Triton (https://www.tritondigital.com/) or Adswizz (http://www.adswizz.com/)
