Logos for your Volkswagen or Skoda car radio
After a little fiddling over the weekend, here's a system producing logos in the right size for your DAB Digital Radio in your VW/Skoda car.
Feedback is, of course, welcome.
Above is an example of what it looks like in Melbourne, Australia; though the logos from this system should fill the buttons entirely.
Bought a two year old Skoda Rapide on January this year.
Guess what? It does not contain a DAB radio!
It may contain an FM radio with logo presets like this. And if it does, I guess it'll work for those, too - I just need to add a logo generator for every station somewhere.
Please can you let me know who produces these files? I've recently been helping a CR station whose logo was in the system (they don't know how) but was out of date.
His vehicle was a Mercedes. Is it really VAG only, or is there a industry-wide collation?
It's great initiative, but surely will only work when fully standardised across all makes and models
Hi, Glyn. I've no idea who produces the original logos that the cars ship with. This is the point of this quick code (which has been, since, tweaked after feedback elsewhere) - to get the correct information for all services. I've sent this through to a few people who regularly talk to the auto companies, but have been told it isn't useful.
In Europe, I gather some stations update their logos over the air. I'm unaware of anyone in the UK doing this, and I'd guess it's only really possible on DAB.
The 'correct' way of doing it might be at every car service for a set of new logos to be injected into the car system: and to do that by using a service such as this, or RadioDNS, to provide them. RadioDNS itself wouldn't fix everything, unless the radio set stores all the transmission parameters all receivable radio stations. I'm also unclear whether it's viable to import over 1,000 radio station logos into the car's system, as would be the case in many large European countries if you wished to pre-load the whole lot.
Certainly as far as VAG goes it seems to be a static, not and over the air system.
Before we have full IP delivery of radio services it is a worthwhile goal - at least for new cars, but preferably part of regular services if possible.
While the issue remains, it seems to me there is a need for "someone" in the broadcast industry to liaise with "someone" in the motor industry to create a standardised way to collate logos nationally or across the EU. Even 10,000 stations need not be much more than 10MB file, maybe less.
I believe Ask Elford has some insight into this subject - if he still frequents this forum...?

Indeed. This website supplies logos to others, contains full details for UK and Irish radio, and can happily cope with the rest of the EU (and the world). It contains transmission parameters too, not all visible. But I'm told that it's a more entrenched problem than just getting logos.
