Signal 107 are looking for a Head of News or an experienced broadcast journalist, who wants to step up to become Head of News. The person will be required to manage the newsroom, build key contacts across the TSA, whilst creating engaging content for bulletins across Signal 107.

You will be working in our Wolverhampton studios broadcasting across the West Midlands, North Worcestershire and Shropshire. As Head of News you will manage the staff rota, as well as the news agenda each day. The role is desk based and involves turning around copy to tight deadlines, responding quickly to breaking news and creating news lines and engaging audio clips, from guests across our network. You will be passionate about news, as well as using your initiative to produce first-class stories and have an outstanding broadcasting voice.

You will need:

  • A journalism qualification (NCTJ or Degree)

  • Great voice and writing skills

  • Strong working knowledge of media law

  • At least two years experience of working on a radio/TV news desk - both reading bulletins and reporting.

    • Ideally you’ll have an interest and working knowledge of sport.

    • Assist the Content Controller to identify potential freelance Broadcast Journalists for weekend and holiday cover

    • Knowledge and previous use of Burli software would be an advantage

    • Hunger to create the most relevant local news stories for both on air and online

    • Creative and effective use of Social Media /Website to drive listener engagement
