What it’s all about:

We’re looking for an outstanding Managing Editor for our Leeds Broadcast Centre to lead Capital Yorkshire to new heights.

What you’ll be doing:

You’ll lead and develop a brilliant local programming team who work well with the guys in Marketing, News and Commercial so the Broadcast Centre feels like one team all pulling together to deliver great listener and revenue figures.

You’ll develop innovative content to drive RAJAR growth in both audience reach and hours across the radio station.

You’ll lead and direct the breakfast show, focusing on planning, feedback and development so that the output is connected, entertaining and compelling. This includes taking ownership of the planning of on-air content so that daily, topical humour is a natural part of the day-to-day output.

Working in partnership with the local Managing Director, you’ll help to deliver creative solutions for our clients to optimise revenue growth.

You’ll work closely with the Capital Network Centre in London to make sure the output is top class and relevant for Yorkshire.

You’ll have a keen eye for talent; coaching and developing our existing presenters, and always on the look out for new future talent.

Compliance with all the Ofcom rules and regulations is critical, so you’ll be the one making sure everyone is sticking to these.

From an online perspective, you’ll oversee and direct content for your brand’s local websites and make sure that social media is being optimised to drive audience interaction and growth.

You’ll need to manage all on air schedules, ensuring that EPG systems are updated accordingly so we know who’s doing what show and when.

You’ll be monitoring and analysing programming activity in the local marketplace to make sure that we are always ahead of the curve.

And finally, you’ll be sharing your brilliant ideas and creative solutions with the other Managing Editors so that we share best programming practice across all brands and stations.

You'll need to be health and safety savvy and strive to follow all our policies around keeping people safe.

What you’ll need:

A minimum 2 years Programme Controller/Managing Editor experience with a proven track record in people management and coaching high performance talent.

Strong leadership skills with an obsession for delivering the very best output possible.

A real ear and eye for detail.

You’ll be a creative thinker and have an understanding of brands and their respective target audiences.

A thorough knowledge of the legal aspects involved in broadcast and all relevant areas of compliance.

Confidence when working towards your own personal objectives and the ability to help others achieve theirs, regularly setting and stretching new standards and business goals.

Great people skills and the ability to cope under pressure, respond calmly and adapt to the changing needs of the business.
