Job Description

Reporting to: North West Regional News Editor

Location: Lancaster

Overall Purpose:

You'll be capable of taking responsibility for all editorial decisions across your broadcast centre and/or brands. News happens 24/7 and this isn’t a ‘normal’ office job. Along with the Regional News Editor, you’ll deliver coverage on all big local stories, as well as reporting from the field when required.

What you’ll be doing:

You’ll be researching and presenting outstanding news bulletins, as well overseeing all the regional/brands bulletins. With guidance from the Regional News Editor, you’ll set the standard for other Broadcast Journalists in outstanding writing and presentation of exciting and relevant news and current affairs on air, online and on social media, within brand style guidelines. Using the full range of multi-media and social media tools, you'll create exclusive content and stories across different platforms with the objective of delivering potentially award winning coverage.

You’ll make sure all news content is legally sound, across all sites/brands.

You'll assist with the coaching and development of all news staff in the Lancaster region.

You’ll assist the Regional News Editor in building, contributing and developing effective contact databases.

You’ll have these skills and experience:

You'll have a great presentation style and excellent voice, as well as supporting others in developing theirs, and be at ease presenting either pre-recorded or live bulletins.

As well as helping with forward planning regionally, you'll have a track record of getting exclusive stories on air and online.

You’ll have an interest, and knowledge, of all news issues across the region and make sure stories are explained and told in a relevant way for the distinct audiences/different brands.

You’ll also be an exceptional organiser, working across forward planning for the whole region.

Good networking skills are also a must.
