Radio Presenter – Falkland Islands Up to 18 months Fixed-Term Contract)

The British Forces broadcaster is looking for a talented presenter to join our brilliant team in the South Atlantic. If you are excited about the prospect of putting audiences at the front and centre of everything you do and would like to make a positive difference to their lives and morale, then this is a unique opportunity.

Every day, we want you to create fun, entertaining and relevant programmes within our 70% music, 30% speech format, dedicated to the local British military community in this remote and beautiful part of the world.

To be successful in this role, you will have at least two years’ current or recent experience in presenting a daily live radio show on a BBC, commercial or community station and be used to self-operating and self-produced approaches to programme making. Your ability to research, record and edit interviews and speech content will need to be first rate and we can help & support you to grow your skills in this area, if needed.

You will be a team player, full of ideas and happy to share them and develop your own shows, as well as contributing to others’.

You’ll be able to demonstrate that you’re resilient, resourceful, innovative and reliable, have bags of personality and enthusiasm both on and off air and be excited at the prospect of a full-on role, a long way from home.

The position involves you living and working within the military community at Mount Pleasant Camp, so you’ll need to be switched on to the people around you and will definitely need an adventurous spirit.

This is a fantastic opportunity to make exceptional radio for an extraordinary audience.

Although we are offering an initial fixed-term contract, our intention is always to move the right candidates to permanent staff positions. So, after the FIs, you could be working in another of our other overseas locations, at one of our local stations in the UK, or at our network centre in Buckinghamshire.

We ask a lot of our broadcasters; in return, we’ll give you the chance to develop your talent in a creative, non-commercial, ideas-led environment, with plenty of support to reach your fullest potential and to share your skills and experience with us.
We have a generous leave scheme, two funded flights home in the year, a 6% employer contribution to a fully portable pension plan. You’ll be living in a single room in the Officers’ Mess and your food and accommodation costs will be covered whilst in the Falklands. There are a range of salary and other benefits we’d be happy to discuss further.

Whilst friends and relatives will be able to visit you for holidays in the FIs (at your own expense), we must advise that the successful applicant will be required to be live in the accommodation without partners and family for the duration of the initial contract period.

You will also be required to pass company medicals, both physical and mental health and achieve security clearances in order to be appointed into this position.
