Posted 30 June 2015, 1.03pm edt

Job Introduction

How would you fancy leading a team of journalists in one of the most interesting counties in England? Here at BBC Radio Gloucestershire we were nominated for two Gillards last year and our figures are on the rise. We're a trusted, authoritative but friendly voice in the county. Our listeners rely on us to tell them what's going on where they live. Later this summer we’ll be hosting four matches in the Rugby World Cup so an interest in sport would be an advantage.

Main Responsibilities

You’ll be a member of the BBC Radio Gloucestershire management team and will work closely with the Managing Editor and Assistant Editor. We’ll need you to lead day to day news production, deliver creative ideas, inspire our team of journalists and set the news agenda for the station. You will be responsible for news output and operational management (line management, understanding budgets, rotas, coaching, recruitment, etc.). In addition you’ll have a major say in the planning and delivery of our digital content. You will be the guardian of our high professional standards by ensuring consistency across the board. Gloucestershire is a county where you can't rely on a constant stream of breaking news. This is a patch where good contacts, ideas, team working ,creativity and planning are key.

The Ideal Candidate

We’re after someone with passion and enthusiasm to lead our newsroom. A knowledge of Gloucestershire and the stories in our patch is important but equally you’ll also have a proven track record of original and creative journalism. Social media is a very important part of our offering so you’ll be need to demonstrate that you have creative ideas which can be used on our Facebook and Twitter pages.

You’ll be managing our small news team and therefore you’ll have had experience of leading a team and probably had some experience of conducting 1-2-1s and delivering effective feedback to staff. You’ll also be aware of the pressures that juggling a complicated rota and the demands that a responsible job can bring.
