Technician/Presenter Falkland Islands

A full-time creative job at British Forces Broadcasting Service in Stanley, Falkland Islands (Islas Malvinas)
Posted 11 July 2017, 9.12am edt

Technician/Presenter (18-month contract)

Are you ready for a proper adventure?

This is a unique opportunity to join the small but perfectly formed BFBS team in the South Atlantic, supporting a range of technical and creative requirements.

Your experience may come from community, student or hospital radio – or other similar environments - where you’ll have combined a can-do technical support role for studio, broadcast and IT systems with some programme presentation.

This won’t be a 9 – 5 job. One day you might be doing routine maintenance in our radio studios or helping to diagnose system faults, the next you’ll be on a remote mountain site helping our resident engineer upgrade a cable TV system or reposition a transmitter. The next week you might be editing audio, upgrading the office computers, setting up an OB, or shooting a digital video feature. At least one day a week, you’ll be on air presenting a music radio show for the forces community based in the Falklands and may be covering daily shows on an ad hoc basis too. We have LAWO desks and use Myriad and Autotrack.

This is a unique role. We don’t expect you to know everything yet – but you will be able to show aptitude for and a willingness to learn new skills as part of a small team who are all focussed on making a difference to British Forces audiences and to supporting each other.

In return, we’ll help you evolve your skills and develop your role – we love ideas and people who make things happen. There’s a tax free salary, all food and accommodation is provided within the military base and although you won’t be able to take anyone with you, there are a couple of flights home per year included too.

You must be a British citizen, resident in the UK for at least 2 of the last 10 years, have a full clean driving licence and be prepared to under-go medical checks and security vetting.

This job closed on 28 July, 2017 so we’re afraid you can no longer apply for this role.
