Forty years after one of the worst terrorist attacks in mainland Britain, which killed 21 people and injured almost 200, survivors of the Birmingham pub bombings have spoken — some for the first time publicly — about their ordeal.

On November 21st 1974, terrorists believed to be the IRA detonated two bombs in the Mulberry Bush and Tavern in the Town pubs in the centre of Birmingham. Six men were arrested and given life sentences but were released in 1991 after their convictions were quashed.

Amid calls to reopen the investigation, memories of that evening remain raw for those who were there, revealed in a special documentary, which was aired on Free Radio Birmingham from 8pm until 8.17pm on Friday night – the precise time the first bomb was detonated.

The entire documentary is now online to listen again.
