A full-time programming job at Local TV Limited (formally Made Television) in Leeds
Posted 20 December 2018, 7.55am est

Local Live Video Journalist Department: Local Editorial (Leeds) | Reporting to: Senior Video Journalist

Summary: Love telling stories through your shooting, editing, researching and reporting skills? Have a nose for that next big viral story, and not afraid to get stuck in both in front of and behind the camera? Whether you’re a recently qualified broadcast journalist or you’re trying to make the jump from written or online news to TV – this could be the perfect job for you! You’ll be genuinely multi-skilled and a keen story-teller that understands the importance of the magic three pillars of a great item: great pictures, fascinating people and a captivating story!

Main Purpose of the Job: As part of a small team of local storytellers – every day will be different, but you can be sure a huge part of it will always be spent out and about in our great city – finding and capturing amazing local stories. You’ll be responsible for planning, shooting and editing original local items – sometimes appearing in them in-vision, and other times adding voice-over or graphics captions to bring the story to life. Social media should always be at the forefront of your mind too – you’ll always have an eye on how a piece might be transformed for online use when out shooting and interviewing.

The local team is responsible for the production of a number of short-form (never longer than two minute) “elements” within our Always Local, Always On 24/7 rolling on-air programming. Complemented by regional and national items produced centrally, you’ll be producing locally everything from headline bulletins to “What’s On” guides, and the heart-warming to the sometimes heart-wrenching. Your items will be sharp, to the point and born to travel far on social media. You’ll be a confident self-shooter, edit using Premiere Pro and have a great voice and on-screen presence!

About Local TV Ltd.: Reaching more than 4 million viewers a month on Freeview, Sky and Virgin Media – Local TV Ltd. (until recently Made Television) has grown dramatically in its 4 years on-air as the premier local broadcaster in the UK. Now on air in eight key cities and regions in England and Wales (Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff, Leeds, Liverpool, North Wales, Teesside and Tyne & Wear), we’re breaking new ground both on-air and in the digital space. With a recent overhaul of programming and commercial production, the development of the Local Live format of “rolling localness” and an ongoing rebrand, now is a really exciting time to join the team - you’re sure to be busy!

Key Skills and Requirements: You’ll be a confident story-teller – with some experience of reporting and/or presentation. You’ll be a keen editor too – ideally using Adobe Premiere Pro. You’ll have a BJTC, NCTJ or equivalent journalistic qualification, with a portfolio of multimedia journalism work to showcase (please include links in your application!). A clean UK (manual) driving licence. An ability to juggle multiple tasks and manage workload and priorities effectively. Readiness to be called upon for creative advice and support on commercial briefs – particularly when working with local clients alongside the Commercial Team.

You’ll have an enthusiastic, keen and friendly attitude (just like everyone in our team!). A passion for making great city TV is a must! .
