We have opportunities for you to join Ideal Shopping Direct to work on one of our live TV channels, Ideal World, in Peterborough. The Trainee Studio Director vacancies offer good prospects for progression within the company.

Job Purpose: To train to become a competent live Studio Director. Over time will effectively be able to take all elements of Studio Production & ensure they work together to provide an effective sales tool.

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities: To become competent in the areas below and eventually be able to run complete shows on their own through training with the Supervising Director:

  • Responsibility for live studio output.
  • Ensuring correct gallery etiquette and protocols are followed.
  • Integrating sound & vision to make good programming.
  • Assessing visual output from studio including shot framing, focus & technical quality.
  • Checking VT before programme to ensure they go to air correctly.
  • Supervising playback of VT into studio productions.
  • Assessing audio output from studio including quality and correct relative levels of sources, in addition to creative use of grams and SFX.
  • Working closely with both Producers and Buyers to ensure the commercial aims of the show are met visually.
  • Thoroughly prepping all products before they go to air enabling a good understanding of how to shoot the product in its best light.
  • Prepping on studio floor with Technical and Floor Crew, Presenter and Producer to enable successful shooting of the show.
  • Liaising with all departments to ensure all elements of the show happen correctly and run smoothly.
  • Writing pre and post production notes to ensure continuity of output.
  • Attending show reviews with the wider business to improve quality and efficiency.

Personal Specification

  • Multi skilled, quick thinker with an ability to make split-second decisions in a live gallery environment.
  • Able to work well under pressure in the gallery, office and live studios.
  • Some team leader skills and an ability to lead as well as work within a team.
  • Creatively driven with good initiative,
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail required.
