More than 20 years after Pirate FM changed radio in Cornwall, the station has done it all over again.

The Duchy’s brand new radio station Pirate 2 hit the airwaves this week, promising to bring together top experts from across Cornwall to host shows about education, farming and health amongst others.

The station launched on Monday, 4th August, and listeners are able to tune in online, through iTunes and DAB digital radio. This means listeners can choose whether to listen live or catch up with their favourite shows when it is more convenient.

Pirate FM’s Managing Director Mark Peters said: "This is really us taking the local heritage of Pirate FM to a brand new and really exciting level, where we can deliver huge amounts of new content to our loyal listenership and new listeners as well.

"The great thing about this new platform is that we've got award winning presenters on our radio station. We're incredibly proud of this, so you're still going to hear all of your favourite presenters and all of your favourite shows: Neil and Tina, Scott, JD - they're all going to be there on our brand new baby.”

Isha Pit, Pirate 2’s Programme Controller shared a few of the subjects which are going to be featured: "We will have The Business Hub which will air every Monday, focusing on helping everyone in business succeed - in particular the local community.

"We also have The Farming Show, which of course will be very important for the local area. We have The Health and Wellbeing Show, The Homes and Gardens Show and The Education and Training Show."

Pirate 2, which is based with it’s sister station in Redruth already boasts a number of high-profile contributors, including the Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust, Cornwall Innovation, The Learning Partnership and Truro and Penwith College.

All the shows will be broadcast on DAB Digital Radio at 7pm each weekday evening. After that, the shows will also be made available on demand at Pirate2.co.uk

Isha added: "All the shows will be available as podcasts. So, as soon as they have aired, the shows will be available to listen to online. They will also be available on iTunes as well."

Pirate 2 is now available on DAB Digital Radio across Cornwall, as well as online and on-demand.
