When the news broke across the region about local Cottingham lad Adam Robson’s ordeal following a rugby playing accident, Viking FM Breakfast’s Sean Goldsmith took it upon himself to pick up where Holly Willoughby left off and give Adam a rugby themed ‘Surprise Surprise’!

Due to high demand being experienced by Yorkshire Ambulance Service at the time of Adam’s accident, he spent an hour and a half laid out on the pitch before a paramedic arrived at the scene and a further half hour for an ambulance. 23 year old Adam had broken his leg in two places and fractured his ankle, while playing for his local team, Beverley.

Sean made contact with Adam’s mum, a GP who was watching Adam play when the accident happened, taking her to air to get the latest on his progress.

Behind the scenes, Sean was in talks with Hull KR to secure tickets for Adam to catch his favourite team, Leeds Rhinos as they take on Hull KR at the KC Lightstream Stadium in the first game of the new season.

Hull KR got right behind Sean’s campaign not only supplying the tickets, but also producing an exclusive Hull KR shirt with ‘Get Well Soon’ written across the back.

Leeds Rhinos were also keen to show their support, getting the whole team to sign a rugby ball for Adam.

The activity culminated on Viking FM Breakfast this morning as Sean called Adam to ask how his recovery was going only to have the call interrupted as Hull KR stadium announcer, Neil Rudd and mascot Rufus The Robin knocked on Adam’s front door to hand over the exclusive package, all captured as it happened and broadcast to the region!

Listeners had been following the story with Sean since Adam’s accident, and this heart-warming piece of radio helped to put a feel good slant on the story as the region awaits Adam’s recovery.
