A former regional daily sports editor has released a new book charting a local football club’s rise and demise.

Martin Jarred, former sports editor of York daily The Press, has written a history of the now-defunct Goole Town FC, with proceeds from sales going to Alzheimer’s reserach UK.

The book, entitled ‘Pleasure and Pain’ charts Goole’s rollercoaster journey, from its formation in 1904, to its demise in 1996.

A new club, Goole AFC, was formed from the ashes of the former club and now play in the Northern Counties Eastern Premier League.

Martin, pictured inset, chose Alzheimer’s Research UK (ARUK) as his favoured charity as a close family member is suffering from the onset of dementia.
