Journalist rejoins democracy reporting service from regional daily role

David TooleyA former local democracy reporter is returning to the BBC-funded service after three-and-a-half years.

David Tooley has announced he is rejoining the Local Democracy Reporting Service to cover Telford and Wrekin Council. as part of a contract managed by Newsquest.

David, pictured, previously spent two-and-a-half years as an LDR covering Milton Keynes, working on the scheme for JPIMedia between February 2019 and June 2021.

Since then, he has worked for the Shropshire Star as a senior reporter.

Posting on X, David wrote: “After three-and-a-half years years on the newsdesk of the Shropshire Star I’m off to become a local democracy reporter again.

“I’ll be covering the goings on at Telford and Wrekin Council.

“The LDRS is paid for by the BBC but managed by news organisations.

“In the case of the Telford LDR the contract is managed by Newsquest.”
