Purpose of role

The ultimate goal of this position is to bring in transformational gifts and pledges. Whilst ensuring all major gift fundraising streams are efficient based on effective and transparent reporting creating a culture of philanthropy at Premier Christian Media Trust.

To play a key role in the Fundraising Management Team ensuring the development and implementation of a robust Major Gift fundraising strategy focused on building relationships and securing high value gifts from current and potential major donors and grant-making trusts and contributing to overall fundraising strategy development.

In addition to help the CEO and Key Relationships Director set overall Major Donor & Trusts fundraising strategy for Premier Christian Media Trust including setting cross departmental strategy to maximize major gifts and grants and effectiveness through: legacies, regional centres, trusts, all events, appeal mailings, telemarketing, online fundraising, campaigns and radiothon.

This role works closely with the CEO and other senior leaders at Premier Christian Media Trust reporting to Claire Southall, Key Relationships Director.

The CEO and Key Relationships Director will agree overall major gift fundraising targets to be realised both in the long term and the short term. Working to produce a major gift development plan that sits within Premier’s 5 year strategic plan.

Key tasks

Major donor fundraising (70%)

  • To take a lead role in developing and implementing a robust strategy for securing major gifts and pledges from individuals and grant-making trusts including coordinating the activity around producing the case for support, prospect research and funding proposals; cultivating relationships with major donors and trusts in order to deepen their engagement with Premier Christian Media Trust and its and its programmes and initiatives.
  • To secure income from current and new major donors against agreed income objectives and scheduled fundraising and donor cultivation activities.
  • To initiate and build relationships with current major donors and prospects, managing these relationships to maximise income and achieve personal fundraising targets, through the identification of major donor prospects and the development and delivery of creative communications and tailored fundraising asks.
  • To secure high value donations typically (single gift or pledges) of £5,000 or more, from prospects and major donors, working closely with the CEO, Key Relationships Director and colleagues or volunteers to build effective relationships with major donors, assist with asks, and maximise income for Premier Christian Media Trust.
  • Work with the CEO and Key Relationships Director to devise and manage major donor research activities and use researched profiles to implement successful cultivation and solicitation plans for existing major donors and prospects.
  • To arrange and participate in face-to-face meetings with major donors and prospects for building relationships and soliciting new gifts.
  • Work with CEO & Key Relationships Director to design and implement tailored cultivation, solicitation and stewardship communications pieces and plans for major donors and prospects.
  • To develop and present appropriate information about PCMT projects in an engaging style for grant-making trusts and other funding organisations.
  • Work with the CEO & Key Relationships Director to develop cause concepts and produce effective major donor fundraising appeals to secure gifts from current major donors and to upgrade key donors into major donors.
  • To help plan and implement major donor-related events and activities of a high standard and quality that will inspire donors and draw them closer to the ministry.
  • To help develop and implement appropriate thank you strategies ensuring that donors’ gifts are acknowledged quickly and that every major donor receives the due care and attention they need to stay connected to the ministry.
  • Act as an ambassador for Premier at all fundraising and cultivation events.

Grant-making Trusts and foundations (15%)

  • To develop and implement an effective fundraising strategy to identify, develop and manage relationships with grant-making Trusts working alongside the National Development Director.
  • To build on existing good work and connections and to identify new streams of support from Trusts.
  • To coordinate the production of all cases for support, applications and other written materials for effective Trust fundraising.
  • To work with Premier stakeholders to write and present information about PCMT projects in an engaging and appropriate style for Trusts and other funders
  • To liaise regularly with other staff to develop Trust funding proposals/approaches, ensuring accuracy of information for such approaches, and maintaining best practice in all restricted income activity.
  • To ensure the use of restricted income is monitored in line with the requirements of the grant-making trusts.
  • To ensure that monitoring and evaluation reports are sent to Trusts, as required, and that every donation is acknowledged quickly and in the appropriate way.

General Fundraising Activity (15%)

  • Work with the ‘Fundraising Development & Operations Manager’ to develop and execute a major donor recognition programme as it relates to all Premier’s platforms and communications.
  • As part of the Fundraising Management Team, maximise income and donor retention by contributing to a donor care strategy, which includes innovative communications, project visits and discreet cultivation events for new and existing major donors, ensuring they remain committed to Premier for the long term.
  • As part of the Fundraising Management Team help to devise an effective major donor stewardship programme and materials which ensure donors migrate effectively from entry-level support, to mid and high value status, and ultimately to legacy status. Ensure consistent high standard of reporting to funders and stakeholders.
  • Work with the ‘Fundraising Development & Operations Manager’ and take a lead role in major donor prospect research, contributing to wider prospect research plans and data mining.
  • Work with the ‘Fundraising Development & Operations Manager’ to develop and implement effective management and fundraising analysis reports to support the major donor programme.
  • Work with the CEO and Key Relationships Director to develop and manage a comprehensive volunteers and peer to peer programme which supports the on-going solicitation of major donor gifts and betterment of the fundraising programme at Premier.
  • Oversee the major donor fundraisers’ processes and protocols for maintaining accurate donor records and profiles on Raisers Edge.

Such other duties as the management may from time to time reasonably require.

Dimensions and limits of authority

  • Deputise for the Key Relationships Director at major donor meetings and undertake any other reasonable duties as required.
  • Lead on major donor initiatives and projects cross departmentally as agreed with the CEO and Key Relationships Director.

Qualifications and experience

  • Qualification in Non-profit Management
  • Masters of Business Administration or equivalent
  • Ability to use your interpersonal skills to manage relationships with current and potential major donors and grant-making trusts representatives from a variety of backgrounds and with varying communication needs and requirements.
  • Proven experience of successfully fundraising from major donors and grant-making trusts.
  • Confidence and ability to represent PCMT and its projects and initiatives to a wide range of external audiences either in face-to-face meetings or in large group settings.
  • Experience of gathering, analysing and interpreting information to write compelling and effective cases for support/proposals.
  • Demonstrable experience of managing projects and balancing multiple critical priorities.
  • Extensive knowledge of philanthropic motivations and current UK major giving trends especially of Christian giving.

Abilities and skills

  • Proven networking skills.
  • Ability to organise and manage your workload, identifying conflicting demands and establishing clear priorities in order to meet agreed fundraising objectives.
  • Demonstrable communication skills – being able to persuade and negotiate, empathise and enthuse with appropriate conviction.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to deliver fundraising pitches, ideas and project updates to a range of audiences in a clear, inspiring and confident way.
