What We Want:

We are looking for freelance video journalists outside China who can bring high-quality global video stories to Chinese online audiences.

Ideal candidates are required to:

  • Maintain a strong familiarity with local news and a solid news judgment

  • Be ready to be plugged into breaking-news cycle and know the sources in the loop 
 Cultivate local sources that help you understand the towns you cover 
 Master professional operating knowledge of news-gathering equipment like smartphones, DSLR camera, go-pro, drones, Osmo, Sony FS7, 360 VR camera, etc, as well as new tools and formats in digital media

  • Carry out basic video editing
  • Have flexibility and be willing to travel when needed 

  • Maintain good communication with our Shanghai head office

  • Have high English proficiency

How It Works

A. You get a story assignment from assignment editor in Shanghai head office and edit footages into story packages.

B. You can pitch a story found locally to Shanghai head office and go after your story once it is approved. And then we do the post-productions based on your opinions after you transfer us the footages.

What You May Film

A. Breaking news and time-sensitive stories(3-5mins)
 B. Timeless feature stories(5mins) C. Key informant interviews (5-10mins)
 D. Short documentaries(10mins)

What You Can Get

Getting viral/sharable——You never know how viral your video can go and how many people will share your work in Chinese mobile web space.

Salary Package: base + bonus (negotiable)
