BBC South East is home to the flagship early evening programme “South East Today”, and produces numerous bulletins, from early morning to late evening, across the entire week. It co-produces the lunchtime Sunday political programme, “Sunday Politics” and is also the local home of the weekly series of “Inside Out”. We cover a region stretching from Crawley in the west to Ramsgate in the east, from Dartford in the north and to Brighton in the south. We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly capable tv librarian to join a small team supporting the BBC's regional news tv team at South East Today but also those working to out other output.

Role Responsibility

You'll be part of a team helping to ensure daily and weekly television output is correctly selected and archived onto the server, and assisting the news team with requests for library material, often working to tight deadlines. You will also catalogue local output onto the BBC’s database to agreed standards. You'll provide a comprehensive and customer orientated multi-media research and archive service for BBC customers on site using online, external and multi-media resources and digital server technology and according to BBC Archive standards. You will work closely with production teams to promote a culture of self-research using in-house electronic databases. Liaison with colleagues across BBC Information & Archives is vital to ensure consistent selection and archiving of content.

The Ideal Candidate

You'll have excellent cataloguing skills and either substantial previous experience of working in a media library, or an information/library management qualification. Excellent communication, team-working and customer service skills are required together with the ability to respond quickly to daily news deadlines. You will be able to work under pressure, be flexible and able to prioritise activities.

A working knowledge of BBC databases is desirable. Also desirable is knowledge of archive services and policies provided by Information & Archives and the processes by which BBC material reaches the department. Knowledge of local television, radio and on-line output is desirable, as is an awareness of technical issues such as media formats and aspect ratios as well as new broadcast/information technologies. You should also be familiar with Microsoft Word, Excel etc. You should also be able to demonstrate an awareness and understanding of diversity.
