A new radio station for the coastal town of Deal in Kent is getting ready for launch.

The station will be online. It's run, according to the press release, by 'the team behind UYC Productions' (UYC stands for "Up Your Chuff", I discover) and music management company Cantor Elite, as well as Deal's Astor Community Theatre.

Deal has a population of 30,000, and is served by kmfm, Heart, Gold Smooth, and BBC Radio Kent.

It's not known whether former Xfm producer Karl Pilkington, who according to Wikipedia "lives or lived in Deal", is involved in the new venture. It is, however, relatively clear that former resident Norman Wisdom isn't, not least because he left Deal in 1929, before leaving this world altogether in 2010. I've read a good deal about Deal in research for this story. Go on, ask me anything.

Press release

Deal Radio ready for launch

A brand new media venture is launching exclusively in Deal, Kent on January 24th. The Astor Theatre in Stanhope Road, Deal will play host to an incredible launch event that marks the birth of Deal Radio (DR). The award winning team behind UYC Productions and Cantor Elite Management have joined forces with the Astor Theatre to create an exciting new radio station for Deal and the surrounding communities.

The launch event will introduce Deal residents to the new Deal Radio team along with a number of amazing Kent based bands. Doors open at 3:30pm and the Launch will go live from 4pm with a unique show in the auditorium. The schedule for the day looks incredible with performances from ‘Ol Strap’, ‘Rhythmic Condition’, ‘Accident of Chaos’, ‘Adventures of Litespeed’, ‘Ashes’, OMataeus and a 45minute headline set from ‘Splink’. The whole day will be broadcast live on the new radio platform www.dealradio.co.uk.

Entrance is free but donations are welcome – suggested £3. Come along and meet the team, listen to the bands, join in the fun and celebrate the birth of a truly great community venture.

Great news. I still find the term "radio station" misleading for an internet only station but I guess that's now the norm.

I think you mean Smooth Kent James. Gold is only on DAB in Deal via terrestrial radio.
