Ozpod 2017 announces full and final program for 2nd Australian podcast conference

How time flies. OzPod 2017: Australian Podcast Conference is less than two weeks away. While the last handful of tickets wait to be snapped up, OzPod announces its third and final line-up along with the addition of small-group workshops, presentations and a dedicated digital station.

Now featuring 34 innovative and talented minds from the podcasting industry, the OzPod 2017 program is nothing less than colossal.

OzPod 2017 has added 25 additional speakers to the conference, taking place on September 8 at ABC Ultimo Centre in Sydney. Topping the list is Martin Van Beynen, researcher and host of Black Hands – A Family Mass Murder, which received more than two million downloads and hit No.1 on the charts in New Zealand, Australia, the UK and Ireland.

Sticking with true crime – a popular genre of the last 12 months - criminology expert and writer Anna Priestland will share an insight into her work with Casefile: True Crime Podcast.

Sydney-based journalist Benjamin Riley is the co-host and producer of Queers, a fortnightly podcast which takes a critical look at political, health and social issues facing LGBTI communities.

Beverley Wang is a radio producer, presenter and journalist who has taken the reigns on It’s Not a Race, a podcast tackling race, racism, culture and identity issues in Australia and overseas.

Bringing the LOLs is Steele Saunders. Well versed in the world of comedy podcasting, Steele is the producer and host of the long-running I Love Green Guide Letters and now, Steele Wars.

Writer and performer Kaitlyn Plyley entered the podcast world with Just a Spoonful, an independent series that talks honestly about young people living with chronic illness and disability.

Broadcaster and actor Charlie Clausen has been a part of Australian life with his roles in Blue Heelers, Home and Away and McLeod's Daughters. Along with partner-in-crime Wil Anderson, Charlie is the host and creator of podcasts TOFOP and 2 Guys, 1 Cup.

Rounding out the final program is Sarah MacDonald (The Full Catastrophe), Tim Reid (Small Business Big Marketing Show), Jess Hamilton (Modern Babies), Courtney Carthy (Nearly Media), Lorena Allam (ABC Indigenous Unit), Rachel Corbett (You Gotta Start Somewhere), The Outer Sanctum Six, Michelle Ransom-Hughes (Conversations), Rob Loewenthal , (Whooshkaa), Tamson Pietsch (University of Technology Sydney, History Lab), Russell Ivanovic (Shifty Jelly), Patricia Karvelas (The Party Room) and Siobhan McHugh (Phoebe's Fall).

The new names join previously announced speakers including Osher Günsberg (Network Ten, Brisbane Hit105), Rachael Brown (Trace), Nick Quah (US, Hot Pod), Claire Tonti (Planet Broadcasting), Kellie Riordan (ABC Audio Studios), Jay Walkerden (Nova Entertainment), Sharon Taylor (Omny Studio), Adam Martin (Acast), Richard Fidler (Conversations), James Cridland (podnews.net) plus the international keynote guest, Jenn White (US) of Making Oprah and WBEZ Chicago.

New Addition - OzPod Workshops: OzPod 2017 attendees are also invited to join a ballot to participate in one of two small group workshops presented by ABC Audio Studios.

The first Refining Your Pitch, a session guaranteed to give you everything you need to know to pitch your podcast to the big guns of the biz. Kellie Riordan (Manager of ABC Audio Studios) and Jay Walkerden (General Manager and Program Director of Nova Entertainment) will share what they look for in a successful pitch.

The second, Getting More Subscribers: presented by Mike Williams (Digital Producer and host of The Real Thing) and Andrew Davies (ABC Audio Studios), you'll learn how to make sure first time listeners hit the all-important 'subscribe' button.

New Addition – Supercharge Your Podcast Sessions: In addition to in-depth panels which will discuss key issues surrounding the growing podcast industry, the OzPod 2017 program includes six exclusive Supercharge Your Podcast presentations delivered by those in the know. These sessions will arm content makers with tools, tips and case studies on how to build a fan club, the importance of the pre-interview, how to use social videos to boost your audience, the key to storytelling, how to get started, and why you should just say yes to podcasting.

ABC Radio is honoured to again host OzPod, a unique industry-wide event offering a comprehensive insight into podcasting and a productive platform for the Australian podcast community to connect and to share. Content makers, broadcasters, presenters, producers, journalists, media industry professionals, and those starting out in podcasting are all encouraged to attend. In 2017, OzPod has introduced a registration fee of $99 to assist in covering some of the production and running costs. The event remains entirely not-for-profit
