Assistant Producer (FTC)

A freelance and contract creative job at 7digital Creative in Salford
Posted 24 August 2018, 4.25am edt

7digital Creative is looking for a skilled Assistant Producer to be part of a dynamic content production team working in our Salford offices on a fixed term contract for 4 months. The successful candidate will offer a combination of relevant broadcast experience, technical skill, and natural social ability.

This is a rare and rewarding opportunity for a lover of alternative music who has already made their first steps in professional radio production, ideally within a BBC network radio environment (e.g. BBC Radio 6 Music, Radio 2, Radio 1 or Radio 1Xtra).

You will be driven by new and exciting opportunities, and will be comfortable working collaboratively with internal and external colleagues to create radio programming that serves a large and engaged audience.

Daily and weekly deadlines and high editorial expectations will not faze you; you will thrive in a fast-paced routine. Your grace under pressure will be matched by your keen eye for detail. A flexible approach is desirable as there will be a need to work on some Bank Holidays, weekends and occasionally at different locations.

You will be working in a small team to create a daily (weekday afternoons, Mon-Fri) music-and-speech programme on a BBC music network. Going forward, you will gain the opportunity to expand your production experience, by collaborating with our wider Creative family on projects for a wide range of clients beyond the BBC.

Specific responsibilities will include:

  • Completing multiple essential administrative tasks to tight deadlines while maintaining the highest editorial standards.
  • Setting up a network radio studio for transmission, with support from BBC engineers.
  • ‘Building’ programmes for playout using the ‘dira!’ scheduling system.
  • Gathering and checking facts and proof-reading scripts.
  • Providing essential support to the programme’s producer and presenters.
  • Liaising with talent and their agents.
  • Creating entertaining and engaging social media content.
  • Maintaining excellent relationships with major clients, partners and colleagues.

Essential experience and skills:

  • Previous experience of working on music radio programmes, ideally on a BBC network.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with excellent attention to detail.
  • Practical understanding of a variety of social media platforms.
  • Good I.T. skills and the capacity to learn new software quickly.
  • Calm and focussed when under pressure.
  • Good at solving problems and adapting to changing situations.
  • Demonstrating good evidence of time management and organisation.

Desirable experience and skills:

  • Passion for, and knowledge of, alternative music in all genres past and present.
  • Working knowledge of the ‘dira!’ / VCS suite of software used in the production of BBC music radio, including Startrack audio editing software, Highlander and Scheduler.
  • Experience of using the BBC’s Proteus system.
  • Experience of working with talent.
  • Video production skills (shooting and editing).
  • Awareness of writing good metadata for online applications.
  • Some awareness of some BBC editorial policies.

About 7digital Creative:

7digital Creative is the content production wing of 7digital Group plc. From our offices in Salford and London we create thousands of hours of audio and video content for online, radio and television clients.

The Creative team was formed in 2017 from three legacy production businesses. We continue to redefine ourselves as a company and create increasingly ambitious content for a wide variety of global clients. The BBC continues to be a very important customer, but we seek to continuously diversify and grow.

In time, you will be expected to understand the strategic goals of 7digital Creative and have an awareness of key projects and clients beyond those relating to your own work. You will regard yourself as part of a large team and be willing and able to assist others across wider production and development, as required. You should quickly develop an understanding of the commercial and technological activities of 7digital, and how these might offer creative opportunities.
