What’s the job?

This is an exciting opportunity ideally suited to someone looking for the first step in their journalism career. You’ll have the opportunity to put your multi-media training and early experience into practice in a busy regional newsroom. This is a junior position based in Ipswich.

What will I have to do?

Duties will include supporting the output editors by sourcing & writing local radio news stories, compiling bulletins, reading, recording & despatching bulletins (as required), preparing social media messages, monitoring opposition media, newsgathering (reporting) and writing & preparing online material.

What do I need for this job?

Essentially, a journalism qualification, clean driving licence, ability to write conversational English, a good broadcasting voice, and strong knowledge of social media and online journalism. You’ll have an awareness of OFCOM regulations and media law. You’ll be passionate about local news and information, and a hard worker.

What else?

A ‘can-do attitude’ is a must, a love of communication, interest in local and community news, creativity, an inquiring mind, respectful personality, and good contact building skills.

Where could I be working?

The opportunity is in our Ipswich newsroom – but you might be expected to cover in Norwich on occasions.
