We’re looking for a Programming Apprentice who’s passionate about wanting to work in the radio, media and entertainment industry. So, if you’ve got the drive to succeed, are an enthusiastic learner and want to develop a career in programming, this could be the perfect opportunity for you at Global.

This is a junior position in the team, but it’s a vital role. Although some level of experienced is desired (i.e student radio).

You’ll be working across all brands supporting our Group Programming team and it’s activities, as well as gaining experience in the separate programming specialisms. You’ll learn tones! In addition to this, your personal learning and development will be a huge focus; you’ll enhance your understanding and knowledge of radio, as well as spending time with out most experienced programming gaining on-the-job learning.

Job purpose: This is an 18-month paid apprenticeship.

Reporting to the Group Programming Co-ordinator, this is an opportunity for you to gain experience of working within a creative, fast-paced and forward-thinking setting.

You’ll work closely with our senior members of the Production team as well as our wider Programming team to advance your own personal skills and experience; so you’ll grow in confidence in your knowledge of working for a media and entertainment business, and we’re sure this will give you a head start in becoming a successful programmer.

You’ll gain an understanding of the specialist skillset that’s required to become an all round programmer and work on projects from beginning to end, with no two days being the same.

Key responsibilities: For the duration of your apprenticeship, you’ll be working across our centralised Group Programming resource that covers all brands, taking direction from the Group Programme Co-ordinator.

You’ll know exactly what our target audience likes, their music preferences, their lifestyle choices and you’ll be able to combine that with production elements.

Alongside this (for 5 months at a time), you’ll work within the separate programming specialisms: Show Production and Audio Production.

Show Production (5 months) For 6 months you’ll work specifically with our Show Production team, supporting in the co-ordination and administration of the relevant parts of specified on-air shows. This will include:

Researching talking points for the show, relevant topics for the brand and crafting questions for guests, Preparing on-air participants on phone or in person, Preparing show content and; Supporting in the execution of on-air competitions. You’ll gain an understanding of what our audience are engaged in so we can reflect it appropriately through the above.

Audio Production (5 months) For 6 months, you’ll work with our Audio Production team, taking direction from the Head of Production. You’ll use your creative judgement to get things right and help the brand deliver creative content that is compelling and entertaining for our listeners.

You’ll support the creation of audio pieces that fit specifically with the brand, focusing on the style and quality of content. You’ll assist in the creation and delivery of promotional trails and will work on briefs from beginning to end. You’ll want to be that ‘can-do’ person who understands the importance of making things happen in a fast paced industry.
