Today, Xfm turned into Radio X, a new radio station broadcasting nationally on DAB with Chris Moyles on breakfast and a host of other big-name broadcasters.

The co-founder of Xfm, Sammy Jacob, may have sold his station to the Capital Radio Group (now Global) in 1998, but he's also chosen this week to launch a new service, called CDNX.

CDNX is described as a "multiplatform music service", with a radio station, a live events department and a website: all supporting Camden's vibrant music culture.

CDNX, which stands for "Camden Xperience", has studios in the iconic Camden Lock Market, and is designed to support the vibrant music culture of Camden. It'll be an online radio station, and also will be carried on the smallscale DAB trial in North London.

Sammy Jacob has also run NME Radio, and is a former pirate radio presenter.

Press release

Camden Market has partnered with Sammy Jacob to launch Camden Xperience (CDNX) a multiplatform music service comprising a Radio Station, Website and Live Events department in support of Camden’s vibrant music culture with studios situated in the heart of Camden Lock Market. CDNX is set to launch on Tuesday 22nd September.

Camden Xperience will champion new and emerging talent whilst celebrating key influential acts from the past. The service will further Camden’s engagement with the music community, providing an additional level of exposure through online, mobile and broadcast media.

CDNX Radio will be a music intensive service, focusing on classic and cutting-edge material from a variety of credible genres. Speech content will consist of hourly music news, gig & festival bulletins, artist interviews and takeovers. The station will be available via all mobile and online connected devices including; wifi enabled radio sets, connected car dash-boards, smart TV’s and game consoles. The station will also be available early October on DAB in parts of north and south London.

CDNX Website (www.cdnx.co.uk) will compliment the radio service providing an additional level of music exposure, news, new music information and station playlists with links to related content. CDNX Live will actively engage in live events championing both established and emerging talent utilising many of the local venues and supported by CDNX media.

Charles Butler – Market-Tech (owner of Camden Markets) says; Camden has built much of its reputation and success on being a hub for creative individuals. We fully appreciate the need to support such individuals, in particular the musicians and venue promoters. We see CDNX being a great supportive platform providing a level of exposure through various media and live activity.

Sammy Jacob – CDNX adds; I haven’t had this much fun and sense of purpose for many years. We’re constantly arguing about music, bands and their social values. The CDNX team is super passionate. Placing the music first is inherent in everything we do which makes this an absolute joy and very exciting indeed.

CDNX launches on 22nd September with a free event at Dingwalls in Camden supported by Superfood and Storms performing live.
