Facts and stats

Pulse 2 began life as Pennine Radio's AM service, which broadcast some sports optouts before being officially launched as Classic Gold in the late 1980s; the first voice on-air was Pennine Radio's Roger Kirk, though the service was mainly networked from Viking in Hull.

It's had quite a few name changes since. Under new owners Metro Radio Group, the station changed to Great Yorkshire Radio - broadcasting from Sheffield); then Great Yorkshire Gold. New owners Emap were forced to sell their Bradford station, though Great Yorkshire Gold continued on the Bradford frequencies until Emap launched Magic on those frequencies, whereupon the plug was pulled, and the station was known for a time as 1278/1530 AM,before being rebranded as Classic Gold once more, taking a service from GWR. The station's purchase by UTV ended this arrangement, and a networked service called Big AM was followed by a station change to Pulse Gold and then Pulse 2. It's entirely possible that this station is one of the most rebranded in UK commercial radio history.
